Installation instructions

BEFORE BEGINNING

  • If at any time during the installation a discrepancy is discovered, STOP, Contact your distributor/dealer before proceeding.
  • Before cutting, examine goods to make certain pattern color is satisfactory and as ordered. Avoid creasing or wrinkling of the product as the metallic surface may be damaged in the process.
  • Cut panels and headers in roll number sequence, making sure that run numbers are broken at INSIDE corners only.
  • All rolls are numbered consecutively. Rolls must be cut and installed in sequence, starting with roll #1. All strips should be numbered and hung in sequence as they are cut from the roll.
  • Install all wallcovering with adequate lighting in heated conditions that will exist when space is occupied.
  • This wallcovering contains metallic particles and will conduct electricity. To avoid possible fire hazards or electric shock, wallcovering should not come in contact with or extend into electrical boxes or light switch boxes. Turn off all electricity to the room prior to starting the installation.
  • When hanging non-matched textured patterns, reverse hang alternate strips. After 3 strips are hung, carefully inspect the wallcovering. If the pattern effect is not acceptable, rehang strip #2 without reversing. Seams on non-matched patterns may be table trimmed, or overlapped and double-cut during installation. Geometric and matched designs may require table trimming for match perfection.
  • Apply adhesive to the fabric backing using a pasting machine, or for hand application, a short napped paint roller.
  • Install each sheet on the wall using a stiff, short bristle brush or flexible broadknife. Apply material above doors and above and below windows as it comes from the roll DO NOT SKIP!
  • Vertical joints should not occur less than six inches from inside or outside corners. A heat gun may be used to allow the vinyl to conform to irregular corners.
  • Remove excess adhesive and dirt from wallcovering surface, seams, and surrounding surfaces immediately, using a sponge or damp cloth frequently rinsed in clean, warm water.

SURFACE PREPARATION

  • Remove remaining wallcovering with a good quality adhesive remover. Then rinse wall and allow to dry. Walls must be clean, dry and structurally sound.
  • All new walls (drywall, plaster) should be primed with a quality, adhesion promoting, acrylic or latex wallcovering primer.
  • An adhesion test should be performed to insure compatibility of the primer with the adhesive.
  • Existing walls present varied conditions, but essentially should be brought to a condition whereby glossy surfaces are sanded, irregularities repaired, and the surfaces primed as with new walls.
  • Prime wall with a heavy duty, acrylic/latex wallcovering primer.
  • Plaster and masonry wall surfaces should not exceed 5.5% moisture as measured by a moisture meter.
  • Maintain an internal temperature of 65 degrees in both areas of installation and storage for three days before AND three days after installation.

IF THERE ARE ANY QUESTIONS CONCERNING THE SURFACE TO BE COVERED, A TEST INSTALLATION OF AT LEAST THREE STRIPS APPLIED THREE DAYS IN ADVANCE OF THE MAIN INSTALLATION IS RECOMMENDED.

WHEN YOU’RE READY TO HANG

  1. The use of a heavy-duty, premixed vinyl adhesive is recommended. Do not dilute adhesive.
  2. Apply adhesive to the back of the first strip using a paste brush, paint roller or paste machine. Work the adhesive in to cover the back completely, especially near the edges. Keep adhesive off the surface. Fold or “book” each end toward the middle, pasted sides together, aligning the edges carefully so they do not dry out.
  3. Allow booking (“relax”) for 10 minutes, enabling the adhesive to penetrate the backing.
  4. Hang the first strip parallel to a plumb line. Tape the edge of the first strip with thin 2” masking tape, to allow the pattern to show through while protecting the surface from the adhesive of the next strip.
  5. For patterns with a definite design (i.e. floral or damask), do not reverse the strips. Overlap each strip approximately 1” and position it to maintain the match of the pattern.
Using a SHARP razor knife cut through the overlapped area and remove the trimmed excess along with the tape. Smooth the edges back to the wall for a perfect seam.
*This material is designed to be overlapped and double-cut, not butted!
  6. After three strips are installed, inspect the wallcovering. If the pattern effect is not acceptable, or it there is variation in the color, discontinue hanging and contact the dealer or distributor immediately.

THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR LABOR BEYOND THREE STRIPS. DEFECTIVE MATERIAL WILL BE REPLACED.

IMPORTANT - If at any time during installation a discrepancy is discovered, STOP. Contact your distributor before proceeding. Any deviation from this procedure will negate any claims later filed.
