Ancient gypsy lore has a cure when the "smoke gets in your eyes." To redirect the campfire haze upwards, Gypsies would throw a white rabbit by the fire and have it chased by a dog round and round. The vortex sent the plume upwards saving the vision of those huddled around the flame.
